fib Awards

The following awards may be attributed by fib:


Freyssinet Medal. Awarded at fib Congresses for outstanding technical contributions in the field of structural concrete. The awards are proposed by the Presidium and endorsed by Council. Recent Freyssinet Medals were given at the fib Congresses in Osaka in October 2002, in Naples in June 2006, and in Washington D.C. in May 2010. They continue the tradition of the Freyssinet Medallists awarded until 1998 by the former FIP.

fib Medal of Merit. Awarded at fib Symposia for outstanding contributions to structural concrete and to fib. The awards are proposed by the Presidium and endorsed by Council. Medals were given at the fib Symposia in Prague (1999), Orlando (2000), Berlin (2001), Athens (2003), Avignon (2004), New Delhi (2004), La Plata (2005), Dubrovnik (2007), Amsterdam (2008) and London (2009). They continue the tradition of the FIP Medallists awarded by the former FIP.

fib Diploma to Younger Engineers.
Awarded every second year at the fib Symposia to engineers less than 40 years of age in the year the diploma is given. Two of the candidates, proposed by the National Delegations, are selected by a jury appointed by the Steering Committee. Usually one of the diplomas should reward an engineer for an outstanding contribution to structural concrete in the field of research, the other diploma should reward an engineer in the field of design and construction. The first diplomas were given in 2001 at the fib Symposium in Berlin, in memory of the late Julio Ferry-Borges and sponsored by the Portuguese National Group :

fib Awards for Outstanding Concrete Structures. Awarded at the fib Congresses to give international recognition to concrete structures which demonstrate the versatility of concrete as a structural medium. The award consists of a bronze plaque to be displayed on the structure, and the principal parties responsible for the work receive certificates. Nominations are made by the fib National Delegations, selection by a jury designated by the Presidium. The fib awards continue the tradition of the former FIP Award for Outstanding Concrete Structures attributed since 1990.
