PR05002 The fib Congress 2006: see you in Naples Following the unequivocal success of the first fib Congress in Osaka in October 2002, the second edition of the fib Congress and Exhibition will take place in Naples, Italy, from 5 to 8 June 2006. The Congress will include keynote lectures, national reports on state-of-the-art products, projects and research, and technical sessions covering a wide range of topics, from preservation of older structures to prefabrication, seismic design, durability, reinforcing and prestressing, environmental design, composite and hybrid structures, and many more. As in 2002, a large commercial exhibition will take place in parallel to the sessions, freely accessible to all congress participants. fib Secretary General Ruediger Tewes commented on the importance of the event for both fib itself and the concrete industry at large: "In view of the more than 1000 abstracts submitted from over 60 countries, the Scientific Committee will certainly be able to make a very interesting and promising selection of presentations, as much from the researcher's as from the practitioner's points of view. Adding to this exciting programme the expected first hand information on the drafting of the new Model Code, the congress promises to become a unique meeting occasion for the profession at large: for structural and civil engineers, and architects, from around the globe, be they fib members or not." The symposium venue is the "Mostra d'Oltremare" International Congress Centre in the Fuorigrotta district of Naples. Its vast theatres and exhibition halls will provide ample space and facilities for congress participants to benefit from this unique opportunity to exchange experience, knowledge and innovations relating to all aspects of structural concrete. Naples, with its magnificent location on the Bay of Naples, mild climate and historical and cultural richness, will provide an ideal setting for this highly anticipated event. Organised excursions for accompanying persons and post-congress tours to sites of historic and cultural interest such as Pompeii and Capri will ensure that participants make the most of their stay in southern Italy.
