fib Honorary Membership awarded to Alvaro Garcia Meseguer

The International Federation for Structural Concrete (fib - federation internationale du beton) has conferred Honorary Membership on Professor ēlvaro Garc’a Meseguer, Spain, in recognition of his significant personal contributions to fib and its predecessor CEB. This honour was unanimously approved by the fib General Assembly during its session on 17 May 2008 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Professor Meseguer became involved in CEB in 1961 as Head of the Spanish National Delegation, a role he continued until the CEB-FIP merger in 1998. In addition, he was Technical Co-Director of CEB from 1970 to 1977, and member of CEB's Administrative Council for several terms between 1992 and 1998. From 1970 to 1975 he chaired the CEB commission on Notation and Terminology, overseeing the approval of the new CEB-ACI International Unified Notation system. He also actively participated in CEB commissions related to bending and compression, and quality control and quality assurance, and in the development of a number of bulletins, including the first edition (1964) of the CEB Recommendations, and the 1978 CEB-FIP Model Code.
