CO2Sto2027

fib supports CO2Sto2027 (2nd International Workshop on CO2 storage and mineralization in construction materials) taking place from 16 to 17 March 2027 in Paris/Marne-la-VallĂ©e, France.

The decreasing availability of natural sand and gravel, combined with increasing challenges related to waste management, highlights the need to increase the recycling and reuse of waste materials. In the construction sector, this issue is particularly important, as the industry is both a major consumer of mineral resources and a significant contributor to CO2 emissions, especially through the production of Portland cement.

CO2Sto2027, the 2nd International Workshop on CO2 Storage and Mineralization in Concrete, will focus on the role of mineral carbonation as a pathway to store CO2 in construction materials and to improve the environmental performance of concrete-based systems. Concrete naturally carbonates during the service life of structures. At the end of life, accelerated carbonation of recycled concrete aggregates can also be used to improve their properties before reuse in new concrete.

The workshop will address CO2 mineralization in recycled concrete aggregates, mineral carbonation for low-carbon construction materials, and the development of carbonation processes from laboratory scale to industrial implementation. Particular attention will be given to experimental studies, modelling approaches, technical barriers, scale-up issues, and environmental assessment methods.

CO2Sto2027 will bring together researchers, engineers, industry representatives, and stakeholders involved in carbonation technologies, recycled aggregates, low-carbon construction materials, and environmental evaluation. The workshop aims to promote scientific exchange and support the development of practical solutions for reducing the carbon footprint of construction materials.
