fib-ACI Memorandum of Cooperation
fib President Iria L. O. Doniak and ACI President Maria Juenger have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between fib and the American Concrete Institute.
“Recognizing the mission of fib is advancing the technical, economic, aesthetic, environmental and sustainability performance of concrete structures worldwide and the vision of ACI is a future where our stakeholders have the knowledge and skills necessary to use concrete effectively in a changing world, and that both institutions largely rely on volunteers to accomplish their objectives, this Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) memorializes both institutions’ desire to work collaboratively, when possible, as they develop and disseminate technical information on concrete and concrete structures.” (Memorandum of Cooperation between fib and ACI).
This MoC renews the agreement first signed in 2015, which laid the foundation for a strong and enduring partnership. Since then, collaboration between the two organisations has steadily expanded, fostering meaningful exchanges between researchers and practitioners and giving rise to a number of joint initiatives. Among the most notable outcomes are a series of international workshops, which have not only brought together leading experts but also resulted in widely recognised technical publications.
The ACI-fib-RILEM FRC Workshop 2014 took place in Montreal and resulted in a double publication: fib Bulletin 79: Fibre-reinforced concrete: From design to structural applications - FRC 2014: ACI-fib International Workshop and ACI SP-310: Fibre-Reinforced Concrete: From Design to Structural Applications (FRC 2014: ACI-fib International Workshop).
The ACI-fib-RILEM FRC Workshop 2018 was held in Desenzano del Garda. It also led to a double publication: fib Bulletin 95: Fibre Reinforced Concrete: From Design to Structural Applications and ACI SP-343: Fibre Reinforced Concrete: From Design to Structural Applications.
The ACI-fib-RILEM FRC Workshop 2023 took place at Arizona State University, USA. The proceedings will be published by fib and ACI. The next ACI-fib-RILEM FRC Workshop will take place on 28–30 September 2026 in Budapest, with proceedings to be jointly published by fib and ACI following the event.
International collaboration lies at the very core of fib’s mission to bridge research and practice. By fostering partnerships with other international organisations, fib helps create a global platform where knowledge can be shared, aligned, and translated into practical applications. These joint efforts not only accelerate innovation in concrete structures but also contribute to the development of harmonised approaches, ensuring that advances in research effectively inform engineering practice worldwide.
