Sixth International Conference of the Asian Concrete Federation

Registration is open for the sixth International Conference of the Asian Concrete Federation, taking place in Seoul, Korea, from 21 to 24 September 2014. The theme is the conference is "Asian Concrete Vision 2030", which will focus on identifying what is best for the future direction of Asian Concrete Federation (ACF) and expanding ACF’s vision of concrete research and its impact on both local and global communities.

Reduced early registration fees are available until 31 July 2014.  For registration and further information, visit http://acf2014.kr.

10th International Symposium on High Performance Concrete

Registration is open for the 10th International Symposium on High Performance Concrete – Innovation & Utilization, taking place in Beijing, China from 16 to 18 September 2014. The symposium will be a continuation of the successful previous symposia held every three years since 1987. It will bring together engineers, designers, researchers and scientists from around the world, to promote better understanding on common interests ranging from the latest research findings to the most challenging applications of high performance concrete for construction.

Early-bird registration is available until 15 June 2014.  To register and for further information about the event, visit  http://www.hpc-2014.com.

Application of superabsorbent polymers and other new admixtures in concrete construction

An international conference on the application of of superabsorbent polymers and other new admixtures in concrete construction will be held from 14 to 17 September 2014 at the Technical University of Dresden, Germany. The aim of the conference is to exchange ideas and experience in an open forum. Contributions will address insights from experimental studies, theory or modeling where such new, functional additives are used in cement-based construction materials. Time slots for discussion of the themes and social events are planned to promote an active workshop atmosphere.

Structural Concrete Journal: papers published in 2013 and 2014

fib is pleased to announce a signficant increase in the number of technical papers published in the Structural Concrete journal in 2013 and 2014, at no additional charge to fib members. In 2013 there was an average of nine papers per issue, which is three more per issue than in 2012.  In 2014, there are 10 articles in the March issue and 14 articles in the June issue.

All fib members receive a subscription to the Structural Concrete journal (four issues per year) as part of their membership benefits. For more information, visit http://www.fib-international.org/membership-in-fib.

Structural Concrete, June 2014

The June 2014 issue of the Structural Concrete Journal is now available to fib members via the Wiley Online Library. Topics covered in this issue are the following: concrete architecture in National Tourist Routes in Norway, analysis of the pullout behaviour of steel fibres, the cracking performance of SCC reinforced with recycled fibres, bond behaviour between recycled aggregate concrete and deformed steel bars, effect of old attached mortar on the creep of recycled aggregate concrete, sensitivity analysis of the early-age cracking risk in an immersed tunnel, water permeability of concrete under uniaxial tension, biaxial behaviour of plain concrete subjected to dynamic compression with constant lateral stress, residual modulus of elasticity and maximum compressive strain in HSC and FRHSC after high-stress-level cyclic loading, fatigue life of RC beams strengthened with FRP systems, shear strengthening of reinforced concrete T-beams with fully or partially bonded fibre-reinforced polymer composites, use of non-contact sensors and finite element methods in the assessment of bridge deck structures, robustness-based performance assessment of a prestressed concrete bridge, and validation of post-tensioning anchorage zones.

fib members can access the articles by logging on to the "Members only" section. Under the list item "Structural Concrete Journal", click on the "Wiley Online Library" link to access the journal issues. You can then go the table of contents of the June issue and download the individual PDF files of the articles.

fib-news, June 2014

The June issue of fib-news presents the new structure of fib's Commissions and Task Groups that will be implemented as of January 2015.  It also reports on the International Workshop on Concrete Sustainability held in honour of Koji Sakai's retirement, the ACI Spring Convention attended by fib President Gordon Clark and Immediate Past President György L. Balazs, a durability seminar in Portugal organised by fib Commission 5, as well as awards and honours recently bestowed on fib members.
